If I m asked what song will always be what summer sounds like for me? I m sure that will be “The Boys of Summer.” This thing is both catchy and atmospheric, celebratory and a nobly sad. Although the track is about a man’s clinging to his lost love, about summer’s end, like about all good things coming to the end, me individually it associates with the sound of waves, a car running along the coastline, a light breeze of coming September, when children are going to first class. And it’s all thanks to the triumphant chorus, Henley fine low voice, aesthetic b&w video with a little drummer. There is pretty good story about Tom Petty’s rejection of a demo made by Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell because of the heavy using of synthesizers and it paved the way for Don Henley to record one of his biggest solo hits and the most scintillating pop track of the decade. Campbell recalled that when he and Petty went out to a car he heard the radio playing “The Boys of Summer.” Thinking it might upset Petty, Campbell immediately changed the station, only to hear another station playing the song, too. “‘Boy, you know, you were really lucky with that,'” Campbell remembered his partner as saying. “‘I wish I would have had the presence of mind to not let that get away.'” In conclusion, for those who don’t know Don Henley. He is a founding member of the rock band Eagles, drummer, co-lead vocalist and co-author of well known songs, including “Hotel California”.

この曲はキャッチーで雰囲気があり、祝祭的であり、気高く物悲しいものです。
失われた愛に執着する男の曲ですが、夏の終わりに感じる切なさは、私個人的には波の音、海岸線に沿って走る車、来たる9月のそよ風と子供たちの新学期に関連付けられています。
そして、それはすべて、意気揚々としたコーラス、ヘンリーの繊細な低音、小さな子供が叩くドラムによる美的な白黒ビデオのおかげです。
トム・ペティ＆ザ ハートブレイカーズのギタリスト、マイク・キャンベルが作成したデモをトム・ペティがシンセサイザーを多用していることを理由にボツにし、それがドン・ヘンリーの最大のソロヒットの1つと10年で最も輝かしいポップトラックを録音する道を開いた。
この事についてはかなり良い話があり、キャンベルは、彼とペティが車に出かけたとき、ラジオで「ボーイズ・オブ・サマー」を流しているのを聴いたことを思い出しました。
ペティを混乱させるかもしれないと考えて、キャンベルはすぐにステーションを変更しましたが、別のステーションが曲を再生しているのが聞こえただけでした。 「少年、あなたが知っている、あなたはそれで本当に幸運だった」とキャンベルは言ったように彼のパートナーを思い出した。 結論として、「『それを逃がさないように心の存在があればよかったのに』」

アフリカっぽいリズムのイントロに女性ボーカル、スライの暑苦しい声が重なっていくところなんざ、鳥肌もんのカッコよさである。
炎天下で是非聴いてもらいたい。

現代三大ギタリスト（ジョン・メイヤー、ジョン・フルシアンテ、デレク・トラックス）の一人。
数々の有名女優、歌手と浮名を流すなど、とにかくモテる男である。
